Or, it could say, "Sage, Stop." You can see where it used to be a Sinclair station before it used to be a Sage Stop. Or a "Sage, Stay." Either the optimism or the politeness or just the sheer propriety of the "CLOSED: Please Call Again" sign is a little touching. Maybe they thought is would open again, or maybe they just wanted to let you know that the vacant garage bays and bare shelves were for real, and that you should try the Sunoco station down the road. Or maybe, like Grandma, they just had been turning the sign for so long it seemed the thing the do, better than a group hug and singing "It's a Long Way to Tipperary." Or maybe it was just like the Mary Celeste...
