| To the west of the buttes are some limestone shelves. These are off-limits for some of the year, since various birds of prey like to nest there. By September, they're gone, so I decided to hike back that way rather than the long way. This is a shot back at the buttes from the top of the shelf. You get a sense of the vastness of the plains, but no photograph I've ever seen really does them justice. |
